Back On Track

Ok, I've actually been "back," as in "regularly at my studio," for a little while now (July was a very slow month - necessary downtime) but haven't been putting up pictures. Thank for the nudge, Jake, this one goes out to you. And Tim, if you're seeing this, go paint something! :D

The whole shebang, set up for a studio visit/critique.


From a few days ago. The places with little black X's are prepared for my assistant the talented Susie to paint in. :D


The core of the megature. A colloquium of rabbits.


This is an example of the light refracting (science term check?) differently through the colored clouds at different angles. From the front they are not very bright and can even look like unpainted silver, whereas from this angle they are very red (or blue, n other areas).

Just something I threw together last night/this morning to hone my skills for a potential upcoming collaborative project.
Whee!

I Am From Battles!

Various detail shots of the main attraction. It's very gestural. Used water, gloss medium, a wetting agent, granulation fluid (to break up the pigment molecules - these last two are esp. visible in Conquered Rabbit details below), powdered gold and dripping and wiping to get the effects. I've been preparing the panels for over a month and it took about two hours to paint this far. 98% of the game is half mental, you know?

Progress on Conquered Rabbit. Might be done. There's a moderate amt. of detail on the head, while the hindquarters are jsut the bare gesture I initially laid down. Will seek second opinion.

Break At Dawn - I don't know if I've ever posted this - probably. But now it has a glossy new coat of black on the clouds. maybe will put in the rabbitx tomorrow.
