Phases

Lotus Pond. Two images - make an average in your mind and you will see its true color.

Ensnared. Experimenting with gouache and granulation fluid.

Break At Dawn. More granulated gouache.

Sunless Sea. And again.

Megature. All the shapes finally blocked. I'm worried that I may have miscalculated the figure-ground weight on the right vs. left sides :/

More Bookmaking

Another book I made; A Truncated Bestiary. The cover has an inlaid collage-piece (the paper substrate is cut away so that the thick cardboard frog lies flush with the box-surface. Nerdy:)

Bookmaking

Yesterday I did a little bookmaking. Here's my setup (to use the term loosely. I still have a lot of materials left over from when I was in Orvieto, Italy in 2005, that I get out when I start a project like this.

Here are all my collage matirials, most of them collected in Orvieto, Florence and Rome. They're organized by color in little envelopes. Going through them again after 2 or 3 years really made me want to do some collage again. You can see some printed and hand-marbled Florentine paper underneath the envelopes.

The book is is its own slipcase, all labelled correspondingly with text from some Korean green tea bags.

I needed more pages to complete the signature than there was content for, so I made the middle of the signature a four-fold spread and used my page-planning notes for a touch of ephemera.

Flickering In And Out

Eu...this hasn't been updated in a while. And it won't be for a little while longer as I finish up some freelance jobs and ease back into the studio after a summer hiatus.

But, if you want to see more stuff, I've just joined Flickr and you can view my photostream here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rabbitengine/
